What Type of Veil Will Go With my Wedding Dress?

There are many different types of veils, all pairing with different types of dresses in different ways. For example, if you have a heavily detailed dress (either with lace, or beadwork, or both) you may want a simpler veil to pair with your gown. That way, the veil does not compete with the beauty and details of your dress. Both looks can stand alone but also make an elegant and stunning look when put together.

In other cases, if you have a very simple and classic gown, some brides may like a bit more detail on their veil. Veils can be adorned with details such as lace, beadwork, sparkle, and even some layers. All of these details give veils excellent character and are a fantastic way to elevate your bridal look. However, with a simple dress, many brides still like to go with a simple veil. Kind of keeping “classic” and “classic” together. This is a fantastic idea and a bridal look that will absolutely withstand the test of time.

What Length Veil Will Go With my Wedding Dress?

This is an excellent question and an important one to consider. There are three veil lengths that The Altar Bridal carries, each having special and beautiful styles. Below are the three main lengths for bridal veils:

Fingertip Length: Usually about 36 to 45 inches in length, fingertip length is perfect for both full skirt gowns and fitted gowns. The name “fingertip” length stems from the fact that when the bride’s arms are down, the veil will land at about your fingertips. This makes the veil easy to grab, hold, and adjust on your own; and not needing someone else’s help to do so, could be very nice on the wedding day.

Waltz Length: About 54 to 60 inches on average, waltz length is perfect for both a-line and ballgown silhouette gowns. Pairing a waltz length dress with a mermaid style gown, although it is beautiful, many brides do not like where this floor-length veil measures out on their dress. This is based on personal preference, but your stylist will also advise you that the waltz length will add a break in your fitted gown, and that you may not love this look. The waltz length is an incredible way to have that dramatic "long veil” look, without it being all the way past your train.

Cathedral Length: Averaging about 108 to 120 inches, the cathedral length veil is absolutely gorgeous. This length veil will usually go past the length of the gown’s train. This length veil is also seen with many different types of details. Oftentimes, the lace on cathedral length veils will be in intricate patterns.

Do I Have to Wear a Veil?

Absolutely not! It is more and more common in the bridal industry for brides to not wear a veil at all. Veils are an amazing addition to your bridal look, but one that is not by all means necessary. Brides should absolutely always do what feels the most like them, whether that is wearing a veil or if it is not. Just like finding your perfect gown, you will know, as a bride, what feels right on your special day!
