How Will I Know What Styles I’ll Want to Try On?

This is a common question that is usually always one of the first that brides ask themselves. This is a good thing because it is an extremely important question. The first and best way to know what style of dresses you are drawn to is by looking online for inspiration. Platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok are incredible ways to see many different styles of dresses. Search what you like but then search what you also might not like. This may introduce you to a design, style, or shape of wedding gown that you didn’t think you’d like but love the photos of.

Whenever you see a style or dress that you like, make sure to save it. Your Altar Bridal stylist will ask you right at the beginning of your appointment if you have any images saved. If you do not, that is absolutely alright. Your Altar Bridal stylist is there to help guide you and educate you on what you love.

Is It Easier to Know What I Like After I Start Trying Dresses On?

This depends on the bride, but most brides do find trying on different styles to be the most beneficial way to learn what you love. Every wedding gown is beautiful, but you will never know how one dress, or another, makes you feel until you are trying them on.

Many features of a dress such as fabric and details are easiest to tell if you like them once you have tried them on. For example, some fabrics are heavier than others. Once you have a particular wedding dress on, you will be able to decide if you like the weight of it, if it is too heavy, or if it is too light feeling. Same goes with details on a gown because different types of lace can also feel different. Some laces are softer than others, some are heavier than others, and some have sparkles worked into their design and some do not.

Once you try on a good variety and number of dresses, you will quickly learn what you like and what is not for you. This step is extremely important in your bridal journey, but one that you should take once you, as the bride, are ready.
